ANCIENT GREEK SANDALS REUNITES WITH MARIOS SCHWAB FOR A/W13

Christina Martini, the designer behind Ancient Greek Sandals, today unveiled her second collaboration with fellow Greek designer Marios Schwab, as part of his autumn/winter ‘13 collection. Martini worked with Schwab to create an exclusive ‘ballerina gladiator-style boot’ for his highly anticipated catwalk show, which took place earlier today at London Fashion Week.

Ancient Greek Sandals first collaborated with Marios Schwab on his spring/summer ‘13 collection, creating a fringed gladiator sandal, which quickly became one of the season’s hottest accessories. Following the success of their first partnership, Martini and Schwab decided to team up again for a second season. “As our debut collaboration was so successful, from both a retail and press perspective, and as it was such a pleasure working with Marios, a second collection was the natural next step” - Christina Martini

Inspired by medieval Flemish paintings and costumes, the shoe was developed as a hybrid of a 60’s ballerina shoe, gladiator sandal and boot. The ‘ballerina gladiator-style boot’ was shown in burgundy and taupe printed python leather and feature a covered press button, leather lacing and back zip.

“This season we wanted to explore the idea of combining a boot and ballet pump for a twist on the traditional gladiator sandal. This boot was not only a challenge for me as a designer but also one for the pattern cutter and technicians in our workshop, as we have never introduced a "closed toe" style before. We’re very pleased with the final result; this could be the first step towards a future winter collection.” - Christina Martini

''I really enjoyed working with Christina and the Ancient Greek Sandals team on modernizing a classic from my Greek heritage, and creating such an exciting, successful collection in the process” - Marios Schwab

The sandals will also be available in a lower ankle version and a lace-up ballerina. All styles, high and low, will be available in lined printed python, black vitello leather, burgundy and black suede, landing in key stores worldwide for autumn/winter ’13.
